What’s your excuse?

“We have more ability than will power, and it is often an excuse to ourselves that we imagine that things are impossible.”
~ François de la Rochefoucauld
I work with some very successful individuals who have confirmed one of my own beliefs – that if a person REALLY wants to be a certain way or achieve a certain goal, they’ll find a way to do it.
The key characteristic that these successful individuals have in common, I find, is the way they approach any problem or challenge:
- They focus on solutions, NOT on blaming;
- They focus on possibilities, NOT on limitations;
- They focus on what needs to be done (and by when), NOT on excuses;
- They focus on people’s abilities, NOT on people’s liabilities.
So what are YOU focusing on?
“NOs” did not stop South Park creators… is it stopping you? Plus, 5 tips on Overcoming Rejection
October 10, 2011 by Debora Esajian · Leave a Comment
I was watching a special about one of my favorite shows South Park, and one of the things that and they mentioned was that they got turned down by a network with a resounding “NO” before they finally struck a deal with Comedy Channel.
What would have happened if that NO had stopped them?
It would have cost them 200 episodes in 15 seasons, 9 Tony Awards on a Broadway Play, millions of fans all over the world with a level of sustained success that is rare in today’s disposable entertainment world and much more.
Whether or not you enjoy the show, what’s the lesson here? What can we learn for these guys on handling rejection? …
- If you truly believe in your dream – even if it may seem “crazy” to others, don’t give up!
One simple yet complex word: DETERMINATION - Believe in your product/service/passion… if you don’t no one else will
- Everyone gets “nos” – it’s not personal and not a reflection of your worth – reality is, not everyone will “get it”
- Do the work – what are some of the steps that you can take to move towards your dream… NOW?
- Don’t take yourself too seriously – always remember to have fun along the way and enjoy the journey!
So how’s the fear of rejection holding you back?
How different would your life be if you faced the fear and moved on?

What’s Your Purpose?
July 25, 2011 by Debora Esajian · 2 Comments
Last week I spent 1:20h listening to Deepak Chopra and the audio book on his “The Seven Laws of Spiritual Success”
This audio really came to me at the right time – all the laws are great and really inspired me, in particular the 7th law – The Law of Dharma.
To make it really simple, this particular law has to do with using your unique gifts to somehow help people – this being directly connected with your Purpose.
And when you live in alignment with your Dharma, wealth (real wealth, which encompasses much more than simply money) will eventually come back to you.
A big key in finding your Dharma to is to ask yourself:
“How can I use my gifts to be of service to others?”
So, what’s the one thing that you’re particularly good at that you can share with more people than you do now?
Are you about to give up on something? Do you know about “Three Feet from Gold”?

The passage below is from “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill – it’s a little long, but read it as it is worth your attention… specially if you’re about to give up on something…
“One of the most common causes of failure is the habit of quitting, when one is overtaken by temporary defeat. Every person is guilty of this mistake at one time or another.
R. U. Darby, who later became one of the most successful insurance salesmen in the country, tells the story of his uncle, who was caught by the “gold fever” in the gold-rush days, and went west to dig and grow rich. He had never heard the saying that more gold has been mined from the brains of men that has ever been taken from the earth. He staked a claim and went to work with pick and shovel. The going was hard, but his lust for gold was definite.
After weeks of labor, he was rewarded by the discovery of the shining ore. He needed machinery to bring the ore to the surface. Quietly, he covered up the mine, retraced his footsteps to his home in Williamsburg, Maryland, and told his relatives and a few neighbors of the “strike.” They got together money for the needed machinery and had it shipped. The uncle and Darby went back to work the mine.
The first car of ore was mined and shipped to a smelter. The returns proved they had one of the richest mines in Colorado! A few more cars of that ore would clear the debts. Then would come the big killing in profits.
Down went the drills! Up went the hopes of Darby and Uncle! Then something happened – the vein of gold ore disappeared. They had come to the end of the rainbow, and the pot of gold was no longer there. They drilled on, desperately trying to pick up the vein again, all to no avail.
Finally, they decided to quit. They sold the machinery to a junk man for a few hundred dollars, and took the train back home.
Some “junk” men are dumb, but not this one! He called in a mining engineer to look at the mine and do a little calculating. The engineer advised that the project had failed because the owners were not familiar with “fault lines.”His calculations showed that the vein would be found just three feet from where the Darbys had stopped drilling! That is exactly where it was found.”…
…” Before success comes to most people, they are sure to meet with much temporary defeat, and perhaps more failure. When faced with defeat the easiest and most logical thing to do is quit. That is exactly what the majority of people do.
More than 500 of the most successful people America has ever known told the author their greatest success came just one step beyond the point at which defeat had overtaken them.
Failure is a trickster with a keen sense of irony and cunning. It takes great delight in tripping one up when success is almost within reach.”

Self Care… Is this for you?
May 12, 2011 by Debora Esajian · 4 Comments
With so many different demands and responsibilities on your plate, self care is something that you probably struggle with.
I’m reading a book called “Yoga Beyond Belief” by Ganga White and came across a great passage on the subject of Self Care:

“The circulatory system offers a spiritual lesson too. After the lungs oxygenate the blood, the heart pumps the first, best, and freshest blood back to itself. The heart has learned and instructs us in the lesson that “clarity begins at home.” Serving others is a key part of yoga and caring for ourselves and our own bodies are essential to serve others well. Follow your heart. In all ways give your best energy to your own heart.”
I’m pretty sure that you are:
Doing everything you can to help your family…
Doing everything you can to help your friends…
Doing everything you can to help your community…
And that is GREAT – you are a good person.
However, have you been neglecting the “heart” which makes all this helping take place::: YOU?
It may feel a bit selfish and counter-intuitive at first, but taking GREAT care of yourself will allow you to do much more for others, while honoring your own value.
What must you start doing NOW for your own Self Care?
